How to Choose the Right Backpack for the Adventure

How to Choose the Right Backpack for the Adventure

One of the most rewarding adventuring experiences is backpacking. You carry your own gear and hike through the wilderness for some quality time with the great outdoors. At TETON, we want you to enjoy your trip as much as we would so we’ve created a great selection of packs for many different backpacking needs.

Day Tripper For the day hikers or overnight trips, check out our Summit1500 (1500 cubic inches—the bags capacity). This ultra-light bag features multiple compression straps and easy access pockets. It’s also fully equipped to accommodate your favorite hydration pack. Here’s a list of some of the specialized features you will enjoy with your Summit1500: • Keep energy bars or sunscreen handy with two side mesh pouches. • Compression strap cinches over pouch to keep water bottles secure • Low profile, body–hugging fit reduces bounce • Long front pocket with all–weather zipper and water–resistant liner • Lightweight, shape–forming, durable, polyethylene backer board gives internal frame support without traditional aluminum stays • The back and hip padding made of durable, open–cell foam with lumbar pad and molded channels provides maximum comfort and allows airflow • Integrated bright yellow, water–resistant rainfly

This is Getting Serious Use the Summit2800 if you’ll be roughin’ it for two or three days. Similar to the Summit1500, our 2800 size has all the great features of the Summit1500 with added gear ties, compression straps, and of course, more space for the longer haul. Fully Committed Other ultralight packs offered by TETON Sports are the Hiker3700, Escape4300, and the Outfitter4600. These bags are designed for long term outdoor adventures, each with the added features needed to provide greater comfort under heavier weight. Look for their details at TETONSports.com where you can also peruse other bags that may better suit your needs, such as the Canyon2100. This great pack is for the entry level canyoneer who wants to join the fun without emptying their savings account. It even comes with a bright yellow easy-to-spot 20 liter dry bag.

Looking for the Right Fit With so many options to choose from, you will want to try on a number of bags to get the right fit. Luckily, TETON Sports bags are fully adjustable for most body types. Be sure to load the pack up with some weight and then try it on before you make your purchase. If your pack doesn’t feel good in the store, then it will be agony on the trail. We also recommend reading up on different packs ahead of time. There are a lot of reviews available online, and undoubtedly, a good friend can give you advice on a backpack they like as well. These are all good resources for helping you choose a bag you’ll be happy with. Our last word of advice is don’t overdo it. For example, you don’t need a 3700 cubic inch pack for an overnight excursion. Be sure to pick a backpack based on your needs. If you have any questions, be sure to see our FAQ page. And if you don’t find the answer there, please contact us. We’re always happy to help!
