Yes, You Should Basecamp!

Everyone camps a bit differently — out of a backpack, on the go, in campgrounds with hot showers. We can’t deny that each + every camping option has its perks. Honestly, we just glad people are getting outside!

Regardless of why type of camping you prefer, there is one fact that nearly every camper can agree upon — basecamps are awesome.

Why? Oh, there are so many reasons…so let’s dig into the top three reasons we think everyone should set up a basecamp.

Central Location

This one seems obvious + basically the definition of a base camp…it is in a central location. There are a few different ways to choose the location of a base camp. Most of which vary by which adventures buddies you’ve coaxed into this adventure + what sort of terrain you’re going to be exploring.

For the adventure groups that have a mix of hikers, bikers, kayakers, fishers, climbers + runners basecamps are excellent at bringing you all together. You can find a campsite that is near everyone’s favorit activity. This will allow everyone to head out for a day of adventure then come back together to share the excitement over dinner.

If you’re group of trail buddies happen to be into the same outdoor activities base camp will allow you to cram even more activities into the same trip. A campsite near a lake with easy access to trails will allow you to kayak one day then hike the next before climbing up a rock wall. This brings you one step closer to doing it all…without moving your bed each night.

Bringing People Together

Since the premise of a base camp focuses on getting your near as many awesome outdoor excursions as possible it naturally helps to bring people together. Regardless of your daytime adventures, everyone will come together at camp for dinner. This will give you an opportunity to talk about what your trail-ventures, share beta on different activities + generally bond together as adventurers.

You’ll also have the opportunity to create the evening meal. This usually leads to a bigger variety of food + will allow everyone to take at least one night away from the cookware. Of course, this is the perfect time for everyone avoiding the camp stove to partake in games…whether they involve cards or bean bags [because, when car camping you can bring the bean bag game!].

Comfortable + Cozy

Finally, if you combine car camping + base camping you’ll end up with quite the luxurious campsite! The close proximity of your car [ie: carrier of all comforts] + the plan to stay put for a few nights you’ll have no reason not to pull out the big tents + set up the cots before stinging twinkle lights around camp.

With a larger canvas tent, like our Sierra + Mesa designs, you’ll having standing room even after you set up the cots. Both our canvas tents + our cots are quick + easy to set up, leaving you plenty of time to set the ambiance of the entire campsite. With twinkle lights + comfy camp chairs, of course!

These extra touches will leave your campsite feeling like home. Just remember…you’re here to adventure so you’ll have to eventually put that book down + get outside to see the wonderful world around your cozy basecamp!

If this list doesn’t have you jones’ing for an adventure that involves setting up a basecamp then you may want to check your pulse! Seriously tho, there are a lot of perks to setting up a base camp + we’ve only touched on a few of them. If you haven’t tried base camping yet, beware…it’s a bit addictive!
