I love this pack! I have 2 (one blue and one grey) and I've had them for 3-4 years. The first time I ever used it was on a 5 day backpacking trip in the Uintas in 2018. Since then I've used it on countless other overnighters and weekend trips. It has held up amazing and still looks almost brand new. The padding on the bag is really comfy and doesn't wear off or dig into your skin like other bags tend to do. And when you tighten the straps on your waist and chest for support it makes the bag more comfortable and less heavy despite having 30+ pounds of gear. It also has tons of room inside and the pockets on the outside. Often times I find myself taking just a backpacking hammock and leaving my tent at home. I'll put the hammock in the bigger outer pocket, which leaves me extra room on the inside for not just my sleeping bag but extra clothes, food or camera gear as well. I highly recommend this bag.Was this helpful?

This review is partially for the Explorer 4000, and partially for the service Teton's service team (specifically Alexandra) provided me.
This pack is extremely durable, I love the material used. The zippers are strong and don't snag, and the padding is outstanding.
However, I had a slight issue with the length of the internal 'frame stays'. I contacted their support team and, after a couple emails, to my surprise they immediately provided a replacement with minimal hassle. They really stand behind their warranty and I couldn't be happier! Was this helpful?

I've had this pack for 4 years now. Took it across Europe for a few weeks, taken a number of flights with it as raw checked baggage; I pack the straps and waist band inside so there's nothing to snag on conveyors. It's been absolutely abused on countless rock climbing and camping trips. It's a work horse and has never had any issues with zippers, wear, tear, stretch. I've never had any discomfort on longer hikes when heavily packed. Absolutely killer for the price. The only time I've used other packs has been to opt for something lighter (much more expensive) for mountaineering. Was this helpful?

You absolutely cannot go wrong with this pack. I purchased this pack through Amazon almost 18 months ago and had only used it 4 or 5 times when I noticed the stretch pocket on the side had ripped from the bag. Not expecting much, I contacted Teton and within 24 hours had a cordial response and message wanting to make it right. Alexandra was kind, prompt, and without hesitation sent me a new bag. This bag is no slouch either. It is tough, roomy, and comfortable. I really like the fact that while everyone else is fumbling with their straps loosening on them, my stay right where I put them. Folks, things are going to happen to products and companies are going to send out faulty items by mistake from time to time. To me that doesn't matter. What matters is how they handle it and how they make it right with you. No backpacker wants to be without their gear or wants it failing. So in short, great bag and even better customer service. Thanks! Was this helpful?

I'm 240 pounds and 5ft tall. I was TERRIFIED of trying to carry a pack for any distance. I've never bothered with a pack while hiking because I've been in groups and others just carried the things. Now I've decided that I want to hike Yosemite. My first trip out with this bag was not all what I expected. I went only 12 miles and up 1,400ft. I hiked two days with a camp one night. I couldn't believe that I made it! This bag was 30+ pounds all packed up but felt like MAYBE 5 pounds hiking. The waist adjustment is a bit hard to get tight when the pack is wet but other than that, the adjustments are enough to accommodate a larger person. I felt like my normal 130 pound self in this thing, even though I'm 100+ pounds overweight. Teton has given me the motivation and confidence to get back out on the trail and finish a whole hike, straight through! I hadn't crested a mountain in 30 years. This pack got me there and so much further! Was this helpful?

This pack is an unbeatable value. I've used my Explorer 4000 on at least four backpacking trips now, and it has held up almost perfectly. One thing I like is the zipper durability. I almost rated the pack five stars, due to its value -- what you get for the investment -- but I did note a couple of things: Despite zipper durability, the zipper to the bottom access can be tough to move. Also, while my pack's torso adjustment was easy to do, the Velcro there began coming open on my second trip with the pack; fortunately, I was able to hold it fast with duct tape. Other than those two things, the pack has performed flawlessly. To be happy with this pack, you have to like having some appreciable pocket space on the sides of the pack, something the 4000 offers while still maintaining a fairly trim look. For the price, it's hard to imagine a better pack out there. Was this helpful?
